Qualified Skilled Workers are individuals who are able to become
financially established in Canada using their education and work
experience.
Skilled Worker applications received after February 27th,
2008 are now assessed in accordance with the new Ministerial
Instructions.
According to the Ministerial Instructions, your application
will be considered if one of the conditions outlined below is satisfied:
- You have an official job offer approved by the Canadian
authorities
- You have legally resided in Canada for period of one year or
more
as a Temporary Foreign Worker or International Student
- You are a Skilled Worker with at least one year of full-time work
experience in one of the eligible occupations
In order to apply for immigration to Canada under the
Skilled Worker category, you must also meet all
of the following requirements:
- A minimum of one year of uninterrupted full-time employment
- Your work experience will be assessed in accordance with the National Occupational
Classification
(NOC) list where all occupations are categorized. You must demonstrate
that your employment experience falls under Skill Type 0 (management
occupations) or Skill Levels A or B (professional and technical
employment as well as skilled trades)
- This employment experience must have occurred within the last
ten years
If you meet the aforementioned conditions and requirements,
your application for permanent residence in Canada will be assessed
based on six selection factors. You will be awarded points in each of
the selection factors. They are:
- Education
- Proficiency in English and/or French
- Work experience
- Age
- Arranged employment
- Adaptability
Furthermore, it will be necessary to demonstrate to the immigration
authorities that you have enough money to support yourself and your
family during the initial time period in Canada.
